Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are defined as the disruption in the eating behavior with excessive concern about body weight that impairs physical health or psychosocial functioning. Eating disorders can present as severe psychiatric illnesses associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. One in eight youngsters may have at least one eating disorder by twenty years of age. Although eating disorders can affect people of all ages and both genders, they are often reported in adolescents and young women.

Symptoms :-

  • Eating much more rapidly compared to normal
  • Eating until feeling uncomfortably full
  • Eating large amounts of food when not feeling physically hungry
  • Eating alone due to feeling embarrassed about the quantity consumed
  • Feeling disgusted with oneself, depressed, or very guilty afterward

Most individuals with eating disorders, including binge eating disorder, do not receive adequate care as the condition is often missed, and patients do not have sufficient access to appropriate resources.
